Crowns

Where damage to a person’s tooth is severe and apparently beyond repair, we can use porcelain, porcelain “fused to gold”, or even all gold crowns to restore the proper tooth function. Crowns are often referred to as “Caps” since they cover the entire tooth like a cap would cover your head. Crowns are an extremely reliable technique for repairing the most severe dental problems. They can permanently replace missing teeth, protect cracked teeth, and rebuild broken teeth to offer a complete smile and a functional bite. Crowns are used for a long-lasting correction of major dental problems. It is common for crowns to last for 20 to 30 years, which is as close to permanent as dental treatment can get.

How Long Does It Take?

Fitting a crown requires at least two office visits. During the first visit we will remove decay, shape the tooth, make a custom impression/mold of your tooth, and fit it with a temporary crown of either plastic or metal. This visit generally takes 60-90 minutes. On the second visit, we will remove the temporary crown, and then fit and adjust the final crown. You will have the opportunity to evaluate the shape and shade of the final crown in your mouth. Once you are satisfied with the restoration we will cement the crown in place and you will have a new beautiful looking tooth.
