Treats for Troops 2010

Thank you to those who were involved last year in the “Treats for Troops: Halloween Candy Buy-back Event”. Through the joint efforts of the community and elementary school children in the area we were able to collect 625 pounds of candy for our troops. We consider the event a great success. Maggie Cordova Elementary School was the winner of the participation contest by donating 125 pounds of candy. Their prize was a $500 award to their school library. This year’s award could go to your school!

We are now making plans for our 2010 “Treats for Troops”. As a reminder, during this event we collect excess uneaten and unopened candy at our offices for two days following Halloween. This candy is then shipped to our troops overseas in care packages. We have offered to pay trick-or-treaters one dollar per pound for their excess candy (limit of $5 per donor) when they come to donate in person. They will also get a “goodie bag” filled with special treats from our partners. We believe that no one needs to eat a shopping bag of candy, so why not replace it with a good meal or treat from one of our partners? The children can “support the troops” at the same time they “support their teeth.”

We have invited several elementary schools in the area to join with us in promoting this event. See the list of the participating schools below.

We encourage you to mark the event on your calendar now! We hope to see you here! (505)792-1585.
