Treats for Troops

The Sandia Smiles Dental Center has partnered with Jorgensen Orthodontics to promote a Halloween candy buy-back event for our community. We call the event “Treats for Troops”.

During this event our offices have offered to pay trick-or-treaters one dollar per pound for their excess uneaten and unopened Halloween candy (up to $5 per donor). The candy then gets packaged and shipped to our troops overseas, allowing them a moment or two of enjoyment in support of their efforts.

No one needs to eat a shopping bag full of candy, so we’ve decided do our part to get it off the streets! Parents and teachers may appreciate this plan to deal with the excess amounts of candy regularly consumed by children for days and days following Halloween.

We have invited several elementary schools in the area to join with us in promoting this service project. As an added incentive, we have pledged $500 to the elementary school library whose students have the most participation. We have also pledged $250 to the 2nd place school with the most participation.

Feel free to post the informational handouts below on social media pages to spread the word. If you have any questions about this program please contact our office at (505) 792-1585.
